We have worked in some of the UK´s most prestigious hospitality venues; The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, The Royal Scotsman Train and The Ivy in London to name just a few. As such we have a keen eye for detail and an uncompromising view when it comes to hospitality. This experience we put to good use when setting up our successful catering business in Edinburgh. We quickly became the caterer of choice for many of the large financial institutions based there however after 8 years of running our business and starting a family a change of life was decided upon - a fresh start in France!
Before settling on the region of Charente Maritime we explored the areas of the country we thought were not only the most interesting but also the most attractive. Our exploration was not only a business trip but also our holiday and we found it difficult to find accommodation in which we could truly relax. All that was on offer were 5 star hotels, basic bed and breakfasts or traditional gites - where you still have to shop, cook and clean on departure - not exactly relaxing! Some of our travelling was also with our young son and meeting both his and our needs appeared to be almost impossible.
Despite the problems of finding suitable accommodation, Charente Maritime was clearly a winner combining attractive towns and villages, areas of outstanding natural beauty and some of the best beaches in France - something for everyone. With that in mind we decided to commit ourselves to offering a holiday experience in this region and to ensure all your needs are met - leaving you free to relax and enjoy your holiday just the way you want to. Also as a family ourselves we understand the issues of travelling with children and are committed to ensuring your holiday is as child friendly as possible.
We are classed as a "Chambre d´hote" (Bed and Breakfast) but the building layout and size gives the impression of a small hotel, we have our own separate house on site. Our promise to you is high standards, flexibility and the type of holiday you will find hard to beat; a home from home without the chores! We all like the finer things in life and believe "La Vieille Ecole" is the ideal balance of family orientated relaxed style and we look forward to personally welcoming you.
