Ile de Re The Charente Maritime´s answer to St Tropez! Lying off shore from La Rochelle, an impressive 3 km bridge you can walk, drive or cycle taking you to the most picture postcard villages. Cycles and the island of Re go together like a cheese and wine, with 100 km of cycle tracks, bikes are the preferred mode of transport and therefore cyclists can be seen everywhere. Bikes are available to hire, and there is no better way to discover the delights of this majestic island. There is a wide range of water sports available, magnificent beaches, golf course, bird sanctuary, markets, boat trips, or just enjoy meandering through the narrow cobbled streets and small shops.
